5 things we learned from the Sheffield Wednesday game

|

Another game, another draw for Leeds United as they dropped another two points against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. Yes, for me, it was two points dropped. We did enough in the game to win it in my opinion and Sheffield Wednesday, bar a spectacular goal, did nothing.

Anyway, here’s 5 things we can take from Saturday’s draw.

Stuart Dallas CAN beat his man

    Stuart-Dallas
Yes, when he was moved onto the right-wing, Dallas improved a lot. He took on his man more, he grabbed an assist with a nice bit of play to nutmeg the Wednesday player and delivered a great ball on a plate for Wood. It was good to see, but it gives Rosler a decision to make. Byram’s been poor lately, so why not drop him to right-back and play Dallas on the right-wing? Well I don’t think Berardi should be dropped. He put in another solid performance and is well worth his place in the side. We’ll see what happens against Derby on Saturday.

Chris Wood bags another goal

    Chris-Wood-1
Chris Wood is fast becoming a fans favourite at Elland Road. His second goal in as many games is great for his confidence, and his positioning was great – right place, right time. His aerial ability is very good as well, he won so many flick-on’s and it won’t be long before he and Antenucci are on the same wavelength with their link-up play. Also, I’m 99% sure he’s going to score 20+ goals this season. More of the same please, Chris.

Sol Bamba is the greatest

    Bamba
Bamba was immense. Man of the match for me, he won everything. His ability to bring the ball out of defence was there for all to see on Saturday. He’s very calm on the ball and as long as he doesn’t get over-confident with it, it’s a great attribute to have in his locker.

The stats don’t lie

    Match-stats---Leeds1-1Sheffield Wednesday
We were fairly dominant on Saturday which for me is the most promising aspect. The only worry is our conversion of chances. We had 20 attempts at goal, yet mustered only 3 shots on target. We need to start converting our chances because the opposition will always have that one chance, as we saw with Wednesday’s wonder goal. 60% possession was good to see and especially when Murphy came on, we saw some really good short passing. We hoofed it at times but it’s encouraging to see players dropping deep to collect the ball and players being patient when going forward, not attempting the Hollywood pass all the time.

We need to win

The most obvious, but the more it goes on the tougher it gets. There aren’t any easy games at this level. We should have won Saturday, no doubt. The win will come but it needs to be soon or we’ll find ourselves playing catch-up. We’re already six points off of automatic promotion.. but it’s only early days. Plenty of football still to be played.

Do your blog a favour and drop the “5 things” from the headlines, it really is quite puerile. Here is an example if you are struggling; instead of “5 fings wot we lernt from da game” try “lessons learned from Wednesday draw”. Thank you.

Keep up the 5 Things theme. It works really well.
