Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips has signed a new three-year deal to keep him at Elland Road until the Summer of 2019.

Phillips is one of the latest to come through our youth academy and at just 20-years-old has a great future ahead of him. I think it’s great news that we’ve kept arguably one of our greatest prospects. I think Garry Monk can really get the best out of Phillips and I can see him becoming a first-team regular this season.

Let’s hope this is the start of Leeds tying youngsters down to long-term contracts. Lewis Cook and Charlie Taylor are now in the final year of their contracts and the thought of them leaving on a free is mad given their talents. Ideally they’d both be staying at Elland Road beyond next year but if either isn’t going to extend then we need to cash in, in my opinion.
