Remember the last day of the 2014 summer transfer window, when Leeds United tweeted the famous words: “Don’t go to bed just yet”? The player in question, Leonardo Pavoletti, has today joined Napoli from Genoa in a deal worth £15 million.

Pavoletti was a summer target back in 2014, Leeds’ first transfer window under the ownership of Cellino. At the time Pavoletti was playing for Sassuolo. The move was never completed and Pavoletti remained with the Serie A outfit until January. The links opened up again and it was reported that Pavoletti was present at Elland Road during a 2-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic. He rejected the loan offer from United and instead joined Genoa, initially on loan before moving permanently for around €4 million.

After two years at Genoa, Pavoletti has today completed a move to a side sitting 3rd in Serie A, Napoli. A deal believed to be worth £15 million.

How different things could’ve been, eh?
