Leeds desperately need players, who could we sign?

One thing that was evident from the horrific loss at Millwall was that we need some more signings, some more good signings. It would also help if they were proven in England. You have to pay more for quality, Massimo.
A main area of concern is Centre-back. Scott Wootton is 100% not good enough to play for Leeds United and at this moment in time there are no alternatives, that needs to change.

There are a few options at CB, some that Cellino especially will love, free options.

Sean St Ledger

St Ledger isn’t the best player in the world but we can hardly attract those sort of players at this moment in time. He’s a solid enough championship defender and definitely better than Wootton. St Ledger, of Leicester and more recently on-loan at Millwall, is a Republic of Ireland international and 29 years old. He should be at the peak of his career right now and could help Pearce become a better player. A problem for St Ledger is his lack of height, at only 5ft 11 he isn’t too tall for a CB. However I still think he should be considered a target.

Grant Hanley

Grant Hanley is a great Centre-back at Championship level but would be hard to get hold of. At only 22 he has loads of potential but has been at Blackburn for a long time, making it harder to do a deal. He would cost probably around the £1m mark if not above, yet this deal would show that Cellino was really going for it. Leeds fans are in a negative place right now, we need signings like this to get everybody going again. At 6ft2, with pace to match, he is the perfect CB and would really improve our defense. He would bring out the best in Pearce and it would also give Pearce the role as the experienced CB, which could take his game to the next level. With those two together, we could have a long time partnership at the back.

Josh Thompson

Formerly of Celtic, Josh Thompson has spent most of his footballing career in League One. At just 23, he would fit the bill of being a young player and it’s not like he would cost much either. Although his preferred position is centre-back, Thompson is more than comfortable playing as a right-back, which would be ideal for us when (not if) Sam Byram departs Elland Road.

Liam Cooper

22-year-old Liam Cooper has recently been linked with a move to Leeds. He’s a player who I really do think would flourish with a move up to the Championship. He did very well in the last campaign with the Spirites as they gained promotion from League Two to League One. Age is on his side and he’s vastly experienced for a player of his age. Cooper is thought to have wanted a move to Leeds, but Chesterfield rejected Leeds’ two bids, asking for around £1 million – a fee Massimo Cellino wasn’t willing to spend. I would like to see him sign for Leeds, although the chances of that happening appear very slim after the previous negotiations.

Now, another position that Leeds really need to strengthen in is attack. We lack quality upfront and in the wide areas.

Billy Sharp

Billy Sharp is a very good striker at championship level, he hasn’t been in his best form in the past few seasons but he is definitely better than what we have. A finisher, something we lack greatly, Sharp would give us this option. Then all of a sudden if Morison becomes a good championship player again somehow, we have two good championship strikers and things look a lot better. Massimo needs to sign some quality and it won’t get much better than Billy Sharp on a free.

Sam Baldock

Baldock is a proven goalscorer in League One, where he has played for both MK Dons and Bristol City. He earned a big money move to West Ham in 2011 but found appearances hard to come by with the likes of Nicky Maynard and Ricardo Vaz Te signing for the Hammers during the same season. I believe he could do a decent job at Championship level, and would work well playing off Matt Smith up top. He finished the 13/14 season as League One’s golden boot winner.

isn’t he signing for the small dogs but as Robins has left is the deal off it looks like we are getting an Italian cb

  • Ropey Wyla says:

Would really love us to sign Billy Sharp and a couple of centre backs plus a couple of wingers then we might not have to put up with too many more games like Milwall but half expect all we’ll get is an itai centre back and an unproven striker.

  • PAUL W says:

Players like- Grillo, Mark Hudson, Sean St Ledger, Nigel Reo-Coker, Max Gradel, Becchio or Billy Sharp or Glen Murray, would all be very good signings, but I doubt weather Cellino would offer any of them £10.000 or more, per week.
So we can kiss goodbye to any of those players and expect more “NOBODIES” on peanuts.

  • ian says:

what about danny wilson of hearts Dedryck Boyata, Martin Kelly, scott sinclair gary mckay steven as jack collison signed for any club John Guidetti Billy sharp Leonardo Pavoletti Mr Cellino needs to stop looking at the italian clubs unless you bring in 4 top players

  • Yes I does’nt look like he is going to spend serious money but if he wants success it’s the only way, there are plenty of quality players who would come to Leeds if the money was something like.

  • leeds oldie says:

Why not charlie austin and billy sharpe now there is a partnership and get neil lennon as “director”of football” to help hockaday then we would get quality players in
I was willing to give hunt, wooton and austin the benefit of the doubt as regards there performances last season but seeing them preseason and on sat they are just not good enough nor consistant enough for this division we still need at least another 4 and get byram into midfield playing a garath bale type role then we may be able to compete in the midfield area

  • Chris Bond says:

I,m a Leeds fan through and through and i was disappointed to see David Hockaday appointed as are manager when there some top quality manager about the likes of Malky Mackay and Neil Lennon who i think we could get if we offered the right money and gave them some money to buy the right type of players be a competive championship side ( instead of Cellino doing the buying ) i think we could see the good times return to Elland Road and get the place rocking like times of old which us true Leeds fans deserve so Mr Cellino listen to what us fans want and you shall reap the rewards and be forever know has are saviour

  • He should be spending ALL the money from McCormacks sale on quality players, go on a winning run and it will be a full house at elland road every game.

  • Shazzan says:

Got to say that I am surprised Wooton is so poor. He came from you know who’s youth team so should not be a complete waste of space. But not only that we must have watched him play before signing him?

  • pauk bradley says:

left back at Hearts called McHattie looks quality 20 yrs old wud be a great signing
