Leeds United player ratings v Burton

Well we’ve decided to go all out Leeds and bottle it right at the very end. Defeat away to Burton has all but sealed our fate and it looks like we’re going to finish 7th especially with both Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham both winning. Here are our player ratings from yesterday’s game.

Rob Green – 7 – Made a great double save from ex-Leeds player Luke Varney to keep the score at 2-1 but the damage was already done. Apart from that didn’t have too much to do, just a shame the players around him have let us down.

Into the defence…

Luke Ayling – 6 – Struggled to deal with the pace of Lloyd Dyer defensively and had a great chance to score in the first half, sending a header into the side netting.

Kyle Bartley – 8 – He was solid today, probably our man of the match. Won plenty of headers defensively and had a goal disallowed in the first half before reducing the deficit of Leeds’ lead late on.

Pontus Jansson – 7 – Won plenty of challenges and once again didn’t receive that 15th booking, shame for us the Play-Off’s are looking unlikely now.

Charlie Taylor – 6 – Love Berardi but it was time for Taylor to return. He was fairly solid and tried to offer support to Doukara on the left but really lacked the final ball we needed. He’s definitely going in the summer, now we pretty much know what division we’ll be playing our football in next season.

Into the midfield…

Ronaldo Vieira – 8 – A close second for man of the match, he was mopping up for us all afternoon and had to cover for us on countless occasions. Showed some really good passing at times which is one of very few promising things to come from yesterday, just a shame he’ll probably be sold for a few million in the summer as well.

Kalvin Phillips – 5 – Don’t think he should’ve started with O’Kane available for such a crucial game. Phillips was pretty ineffective before being replaced by Pedraza and just couldn’t get into the game. I don’t agree with the abuse however, it’s not like he’s the only one under-performing at this moment in time.

Pablo Hernandez – 6 – Compared to recent games this was much better from Hernandez but we needed more. Plenty of decent deliveries which we should’ve done better with and he himself had a free header but put it wide. Not sure if he’ll be here next year but he’s got the ability to unlock a defence with one pass, something no one else in this squad has.

Onto the forwards…

Kemar Roofe – 5 – The first half stat probably summed his and Leeds’ performances of late up. He completed just two passes and didn’t do enough with the ball. Had a great chance to score in the second half but somehow didn’t convert. I still think there’s plenty to come from him, I’d probably keep him in the squad for Norwich.

Souleymane Doukara – 5 – I was one of those who wanted him back in the line up but I really wish I’d have kept my mouth shut, he was abysmal today. Did absolutely nothing before being replaced by Hadi Sacko, as you can see from the stats below.

Chris Wood – 6 – On a scoring-drought at the moment but teams are starting to bully him out of the game knowing we offer absolutely no threat from elsewhere. I’d hope for him to bag a couple more before the end of the season, starting with next weekend.

Another awful result which just about sums up our recent form, just one win in April has seen us blow an 8 point gap. I guess the pressure’s well and truly off us now and hopefully we see perormances like we saw against Derby or Brighton for the last two games.

Gutted doesn’t cut it at the moment, though. If we finish 7th you can’t say it’s been a successful season considering how long we were in the Play-Off’s for.
