Leeds United player ratings v Ipswich

|

Silvestri k
1. Marco Silvestri – First up and the hardest one for me to give a definite score against. The Ipswich goal if we are being critical you shouldn’t be getting beat at your near post, especially if you get a hand to it. Later on from that he effectively wins us the game with a great penalty save. Marco is up for player of the month for February, I don’t know how likely it is for a keeper to win it but his performance live on sky v Boro should help.

SCOTT WOOTTON CELEBRATES SCORING LEEDS FIRST GOAL

15. Scott Wootton – Theres nothing much to say really, did everything well can’t really remember him being put under a lot of trouble. Pretty standard solid performance
Match Rating 7

Bamba

3. Souleymane Bamba – Bamba & Bellusci, I don’t know why it works but it seems these two at CB equals less goals scored from open play. Solid against two strikers who are good in the air (Woods & Varney) his wavy arms bit conceded the penalty that could have left us with one point instead of the three. Silvestri saved his bacon.

bellusci on tour

5. Giuseppe Bellusci – I was watching the game and I thought, how do you describe “The Warrior” then it struck me unorthodox (adjective : contrary to what is usual, traditional, or accepted) but it works in his favour, his unpredictability gives him a bit of an edge against opponents. Like I said above him and Bamba seem to work well together.
Match Rating 7

Cooper

32. Liam Cooper – Cooper is in an unfortunate position, Bamba and Bellusci have a great record as a pairing but Cooper doesn’t warrant being taken out the side, this game was perfect to move him to left back with Ipswich not really having a wide threat with pace. I thought Cooper did well and broke forward a few times. I’m giving Cooper an extra point on his score because he was affectively playing out of position, his best position anyways, a position I see him struggling to get back into baring a huge error, suspension or injury.

LUKE MURPHY CELEBRATES SCORING LEEDS WINNER IN INJURY TIME

7. Luke Murphy – One of the contenders for MOTM carried on as he has since the turn of the new year. I don’t really know what else to say he was very good.

lewis-cook-vs-bolton_h3uc450isz3v12jgnrbqi3i2l

23. Lewis Cook – Lewis looked back to himself in this game, the past few games he’s looked a bit off it, a bit frustrated and things not going his way. His break for the Billy Sharp goal and the vision to see him when there were probably easier passes to score. He still sometimes for me tries to be too fancy leading to him giving the ball away but that’s something that will come with more experience, knowing when to use his vast range of technique.

SAm b

2. Sam Byram – It was a good contest, Byram vs one of the most raved about fullbacks in the league in Mings I’d say it was pretty much a stalemate both cut each other out of the game.
Match Rating 7

mowatt
27. Alex Mowatt – If it was a one-off game of a good performance I’d probably have given my man of the match to Luke Murphy but he’s set the standard for himself now. Alex last night in the 10 role was outstanding for me, he was the pivot for everything in a half where that final ball just didn’t come off. Fully deserved his goal via the freekick, these goals giving flashbacks to the Ian Harte days where anything around the box you knew would be in the back of the net.
Match Rating 9

Taylor 2

21. Charlie Taylor – Pushed forward into a LM/LW sort of role Charlie held his own, didn’t really excel like Byram has, but then again doesn’t have the championship playing experience that Byram has. He grafted for the 68 minutes he was on the pitch and have no complaints about his performance.

Match Rating 7

Sharp

8. Billy Sharp – Two games two goals, a run in the side that’s paying off, sharp doesn’t offer the presence that Steve Morison does but he makes up for that in energy, for me the right pick in this game where they had less mobile defenders. Great backwards movement to meet the cross from cook to nestle it in the bottom corner and great touch in celebrating with Redfearn.
Match Rating 7

Mirco Antenucci
Substitutes
38. Mirco Antenucci – 68’ (Replaced 21. Charlie Taylor) – With Mirco coming on Alex Mowatt moved wide left and Mirco moved around Sharp in the middle, I have huge frustration with Mirco’s inability to take the ball past a man 1 on 1. He moved about a bit and had one chance. At times looked a bit frustrated, I suppose you would be if you were on a low wage and high goal bonus.
Match Rating 5

Steve+Morison+Leeds+United+v+Peterborough+MwQLkWPO4oql
19. Steve Morison – 84’ (Replaced 8. Billy Sharp) – Like for like swap with Billy Sharp this was very much a go slow this game down and see it out substitution a job he did willingly and perfectly, wasted time ran the balls into corners, slowed the play down. Did what he was asked to do.
Match Rating 6

redfearn

Neil Redfearn – Neil has to take some credit for me. Picking 4 centre backs, putting a young left back at left-wing and persisting with Billy, then to change it up at the right time. It could have gone horribly wrong but he got it spot on. A few jumped on his back on Saturday but we have to remember like this side Neil is only a baby to first team football management and we are going to have times when things don’t work. It’s about learning and moving on, perfect reaction with 3 points. I just hope it’s a case of building what we have in the summer not knocking it down and starting again.

how can you give Antenucci 5 he played a good ball to Cook for Sharps goal and when he came on we looked much more lively in attack deserves at least a 7. Then you give Morison higher when he had less of an impact on the game.
