Leeds United player ratings v Middlesbrough

|

Leeds moved into the eleventh place in the Championship after a battling win against Boro at the Riverside. But how did each player do? These are my ratings.

Silvestri k

Marco Silvestri – 9 – He had a near-perfect game, he kept us in it himself at times in the game. I would have given him a 10 but his kicking really puts us under pressure sometimes, amazing shot-stopping yesterday, though.

SCOTT WOOTTON CELEBRATES SCORING LEEDS FIRST GOAL

Scott Wootton – 7 – Wootton had a solid game yesterday, he defended extremely well throughout and was unlucky not to score with his header that hit the bar.

Bamba

Sol Bamba – 9 – Sol Bamba is ridiculous, it’s hard to describe just how good he was yesterday. He is exactly what Leeds have needed for years now, a big commanding centre-back dominates strikers, yet also has pace and is very vocal. You can tell he loves playing for Leeds, too. He plays with a smile on his face and he made an absolutely massive tackle yesterday, saving us big time.

bellusci on tour

Giuseppe Bellusci – 7 – His first half performance was worrying, he looked suspect and got a silly yellow card which has suspended him for two games. I would have considered subbing him for Cooper but fair play to him, his second-half performance was great. His suspension does make it easy for Redfearn to bring Cooper back in, alongside Bamba, I think that will be the best partnership.

Taylor 2

Charlie Taylor – 8 – Taylor had an excellent game against Boro, he was up against a quality winger in Adomah and he never gave an inch. He’s got good pace going forward too, a very balanced player and another great academy product.

football-league-championship-leeds-murphy_3009552

Luke Murphy – 7 – Murphy had another solid game, second-half especially he ran the midfield. He brought the ball forward well and took some great set-pieces, which doesn’t happen too often with Leeds.

lewis-cook-vs-bolton_h3uc450isz3v12jgnrbqi3i2l

Lewis Cook – 8 – Cook never fails to impress. He basically had Adam Clayton in his pocket all game and it was great to watch. He plays as if he’s 25 and we’ll be extremely lucky to keep him (give him a contract please). His assist for the goal shows off his talent well

Byram

Sam Byram – 6 – Byram didn’t have the best of games yesterday but he still did a job for the team. Given that we didn’t have too much of the ball it was hard for him to get into the game, I think he’ll be better when we’re more in control of possession.

austin

Rodolph Austin – 6 – Austin put in a good shift yesterday but he didn’t really contribute too much. What he does well is bring the ball forward when we’re under pressure, his pace is a real outlet.

Alex Mowatt

Alex Mowatt – 8 – Mowatt is on a real run of form at the moment, his goal was decent, a bit lucky but still he had to be brave to get that shot away. His passing is great too and he hardly gave the ball away yesterday.

Steve+Morison+Leeds+United+v+Peterborough+MwQLkWPO4oql

Steve Morison – 8 – I think Morison deserves an 8 even without scoring. I am by no means Morison’s biggest fan but the shift he put in yesterday was unreal. He held the ball up well upfront but also defended extremely well, clearing from many set pieces. The last few minutes summed his performance up well, he didn’t give up and blocked two balls forward when we were under pressure. Great performance from him and I hope he scores on Tuesday.

On to Brighton!

Sol Bamba and Marco 10, no question.

So impressed with Taylor yesterday. You just wouldn’t believe his age and experience. Going to be top notch!

  • Bluesman says:

Cook superb. Knows how to win as well. Oh, Johnny, Johnny – Johny Giles!

Can’t remember a more intense 90 minutes! What a performance from the team on the whole. Without being instantly negative I think it’s clear where we need to strengthen our starting 11.

I think Wooton is our weakest link. He is not a right back and the fact he gets in ahead of Berardi says it all about Geatano. I can’t see him getting any games at centre half with the depth we have there, so despite his good performances think he should be moved on to make room for a top right back to come in and give a youngster a chance.

The other obvious problem is left wing. Mowatt is obviously on fire and doing a job there, but we need a left sided winger. This would give us more pace and a balanced squad as well allowing Mowatt to play a more central role.

I think the other two problems are Austin and Morison. They are both doing great at the moment but Austin is not skilled enough to play as a number 10 and between them they don’t score goals. They are both also getting on a bit, so do we stick or twist??

I think Redfearn wants to sign a left-winger on loan but it’s down to Cellino really. I think Sloth should be given a chance over Austin and I’d give Morison till the end of the season, just to see if he can find some goals.

Wow does Sol stand for Solid what a performance leads by example and others follow it’s no coincidence our results have improved since he arrived might have found ourselves a new captain fantastic onwards and upwards at last a team that gives 100 percent

  • Helen LUFC says:

With Cellino out of the way Redders can do his job properly. Thompson looks a good addition.
