First team

Redders has a selection headache for Saturday. Who should he pick?

|

After the surprising, yet quite familiar Leeds performance against Sunderland in the FA Cup, Neil Redfearn has a dilemma. When he threw in some of the outcasts last week I don’t think even he expected them to put in a much better than the ‘first’ team has been doing in recent weeks. That may have been partly down to the change in formation, away from the diamond at last to a 4-3-2-1. Here is the team that I would pick for the game away to Bolton –

The formation is 4-3-2-1

Marco+Silvestri+AFC+Bournemouth+v+Leeds+United+ToB_mS3qcXil

GK – Marco Silvestri – A pretty obvious choice, had some dodgy games in recent weeks but he seemed back to his best against Sunderland.

Byram

RB – Sam Byram – I’d stick with Sam over Berardi, I don’t think Berardi is all that if I’m honest and he doesn’t offer half as much going forward as Byram does. Having said that, Sam does have room to improve this season, he needs to go past people like he used to do instead of coming inside every time he goes forwards.

Del fabro

CB – Dario Del Fabro – Bit of a risky one this but I’ve decided I’d stick with Del Fabro, there seems to be something about him. He looks composed and at 19 that is no mean feat.

Cooper k

CB – Liam Cooper – I’ve decided to keep the same partnership from the Sunderland game. I really like Liam Cooper, I think he’s a future Leeds captain, he tackles better than any of our other CB’s and reads the game excellently. Clearly, he’s made a few errors, but he’s young and he’ll learn.

taylor

LB – Charlie Taylor – Given that Stephen Warnock is injured, this is an obvious choice. Taylor is very highly rated and at Sunderland I thought he played well, he gets forward with pace and seems a solid enough defender.

austin

CDM – Rodolph Austin – After last week, Austin has to play I think, he had one of his great games that appear every so often. Obviously he isn’t consistent enough but he just offers some energy and power that Bianchi doesn’t.

lewis-cook-vs-bolton_h3uc450isz3v12jgnrbqi3i2l

CDM – Lewis Cook – Although Luke Murphy played well by his standards against Sunderland, Cook has to come back in. He’s been by far our best player this season, we really need to give him a new contract.

Sloth

RM – Casper Sloth – I’ve been a fan of Sloth since his arrival and I was frustrated when he got left out of the squad in place of Tonge. However after his good performance last week I think he’ll be in the team for a while now, his passing is excellent.

brian-montenegro_45fi6mxyeiv01n7djea3obd1n

LM – Brian Montenegro – This was a tricky one, I do like Alex Mowatt but he just has no pace whatsoever and has gone off form recently. I thought I’d give him one more game on the bench, what we know Montenegro does have is pace, I’ve seen some positive signs from him but it’s too early to tell just how good he’ll be.

Adryan+Leeds+United+v+Charlton+Athletic+te5X1GrY4lul

CAM – Adryan – Can’t leave him out, think it’s about time he scored and put in a MOTM performance. To be fair, I wouldn’t be too upset if Mowatt played instead, but Adryan just edges it for me.

ANTENUCCI

ST – Mirco Antenucci – Been one of our better signings, think this formation might suit him (he’s no Becchio though). His link-up play will be key in us picking up a result.

There’s no doubt it will be a tough game, Bolton have picked up under Neil Lennon. Would you be surprised if Heskey scored? However, there was a definite improvement against Sunderland and I think we can carry it on into this game. I expect us to get a result.

Good balanced line up, couldn’t strongly disagree with any
I think that it is time for Adryan to do the business and behind Antenicci could be the place.

Good shouts in all positions, would take Antenucci off after 60 minutes for Sharp regardless of the score. Hope Redders gives Phillips an opportunity soon, looks like another special player coming through the youths.

Only one change for me … Bellusci in place of Rodolph Austin. too many missed passes, too many blind alleys, too many Row ZZs or corner flag shots.

  • Shaun says:

Antenucci no Becchio?? Yh he’s way better. Can control a ball, dribble, shoot, not fall over every time he shoots and pretty much everything else
