Time for talking is over, go for it Leeds

Leeds United’s season is yet again in danger of petering out into the mid-table abyss. We have 7 more games in March and in reality we need to win at least 6 to be in with even a tiny chance of making the play-offs. 5 of these games are at home, bringing the fans into play. We all know that when Elland Road is rocking there isn’t many places like it and it can really help the players. Many times last season when the attendances were around the 20,000 mark or below you could tell it had a negative effect on the players. We need to really get behind the players, what have we got to lose?

We now have a team that is in my opinion capable of making the play-offs. We just need to get a run together, starting with Bolton on Saturday. That game won’t even be easy as they come into the game off the back of a 4-0 win over rivals Blackburn. We then face Reading at home which is without doubt one of the biggest games of the season. They are 7 points ahead of us at this moment in time and sit 7th in the league. I may be naive but I expect Leeds to beat everybody in this league at home. With the exception of Burnley away all the other fixtures seem very winnable: Millwall at home, Bournemouth away and Doncaster at home. If we do manage to get a run together, who knows what could happen? We may as well go for it. There’s always one team that comes from nowhere every year, who says it can’t be us? A worry for Leeds is Wigan, they’re hitting form at the right time and are now 6th in the league, 8 points ahead of us. They somehow managed to beat Forest 4-1 away to put themselves in a great position. I think Forest could end up dropping out of the play-offs as they seem to have lost form, mainly due to a lot of injuries. Billy Davies has also got a 5 game touchline ban which won’t help matters.
What has annoyed me in recent weeks is Brian McDermott saying that we are going to “go for it”. He said this before the Middlesbrough game, which was one of the worst games I have ever seen in my whole life. We definitely did not “go for it”. Even against QPR, we played well compared to prior performances but the game was their for the taking and we really didn’t do enough to win. Bringing on Michael Brown shows that we really weren’t going for the win. I just hope that he has learnt from these games and now that it’s almost too late, he will go for it.
Jimmy Kebe and Cameron Stewart are possibly the key for us. Our best game this season was when we beat Huddersfield 5-1 and both of them played extremely well, the only time this season that has happened. Almost ironically McDermott wasn’t there on that day, read into that what you will… Both Kebe and Stewart have been poor recently so it is about time they stepped up. They both do a decent job defensively but at home we need more than that, they need to go at defenders the way Gradel and Snodgrass used to do. Now they have Connor Wickham upfront there really is no excuse for the lack of crosses. Hopefully we manage to win on Saturday and set up a run to the end of the season, anything could happen. Hopefully we may even get to see some of this…gif s
