With some tired legs, who should start against Bristol City?

|

After a decent draw at Reading, our hectic schedule continues. We haven’t played at a normal time on a normal day yet and it’s becoming frustrating. Give us a Saturday at 3pm! Anyway, there’s a few important decisions to be made for the team, here’s my team.

GK – Marco Silvestri – As much as I want to say Turnbull, because he commands his area, catches crosses and his kicking is excellent, I know Silvestri will play so there’s no point going for Ross.

Onto the defence…

RB – Gaetano Berardi – Quickly becoming my favourite player, at least a 7/10 performance every week and makes virtually no errors. Should play every game this season.

CB – Sol Bamba – Obvious one I know, proper captain. Hopefully he won’t pick up a booking inside the first few minutes as he has for the first two league games. If you haven’t seen this video of Bamba then I suggest you watch – https://vine.co/v/epdv6xZHbDp

CB – Liam Cooper – I was so glad he started against Reading and even more pleased that he was a man-of-the-match contender. He was solid and worked well with Bamba, he even had to cover for him a few times. I really hope he continues to progress into a class player. We need a solid partnership at the back instead of constant change.

LB – Charlie Taylor – Picks himself, we don’t really have another option at LB and we wouldn’t want one anyway. He seems to get better and better, definitely put on some muscle over the summer too.

Into the midfield…

CDM – Tom Adeyemi – I really like the look of him, doesn’t do anything flashy but doesn’t need to either, wins the ball back and gives it to another Leeds player. Every team needs somebody like this, especially when you’ve got three in midfield.

CM – Luke Murphy – I expect Murphy to come back into the team, Uwe has stated that he’s pretty much match fit again now so with some tired legs in midfield Murphy is likely to come back into the team and give us some creativity.

CAM – Kalvin Phillips – Phillips played so well on Sunday that I expect him to start again. I think Mowatt will be rested, it’s been quite well documented that he looks like he’s played a lot of football. A game rest will probably do him the world of good. I also think there’s a chance Antenucci could play in the number 10 role too, because he gives us a spark of creativity. I wouldn’t be surprised with either.

Into the attack…

RW – Sam Byram – Didn’t have his best game at Reading but our only real option out wide considering how poor Doukara has been. Still a vital part of our team, especially with his headers. Every goal-kick goes for Byram to run onto and he usually does quite well. Needs to keep attacking defenders instead of cutting inside.

LW – Stuart Dallas – Pretty much up to full-fitness now, I expect him to improve. Don’t get me wrong he has played well for us but obviously he has more in his locker. Vitally important to how our team defends as a unit, too.

ST – Chris Wood – I thought he played well at Reading but he lacked service big time. He will score goals if he gets the right service, but I do feel for Antenucci at the moment, he does deserve to start but in this system it’s difficult.

Who do you think should start tomorrow night? Let us know!

I think your being a little harsh to Byram mate, ive seen every game including pre-season and hes the most comfortable player on the ball by a country mile, against Donny he made a huge difference to our possession when he came on…………Yes his best position is possibly Full back but it shows you just how good a player he is when he can make an impact in almost any position

Agree about Antenucci, he needs to play, he looks deadly at the moment………..we have a 20+++ goal a season striker rotting on the bench, not good

Marco Silvestri is the no.1 GK at the club and has done nothing wrong to suggest otherwise … despite a minority trying to justify him being left out. However, I agree with your assessment of Gaetano Berardido, he’s turning out to be a top quality RB. Just a couple of questions …

1 …you want Liam Cooper in because he’s a better defender … or because you simply don’t like Giuseppe Bellusci?
2 … in the absence of Lewis Cook ,,, would it be sensible to try Sam Byram on the right of midfield, alongside Tom Adeyemi and Luke Murphy / Alex Mowatt … this would make space for Mirco Antenucci to play the no 10 role behind Chris Wood?

Thought Phillips was the best player on the pitch at reading on Sunday, would like to see him start

Just like last season, the five man midfield and one striker system, is not producing enough goals and it’s as if Redfearn and Morison have never left the club.
For Christ sake, lets play a 4-4-2, with Antenucci playing alongside Wood and we might at last see some goals or are we to rot in a mediocre, mid-table position again ?.
